Digital and Offset Printing

PRINTING AND TYPES

Printing is the process of transferring an image onto any material with or without color, using various methods. These methods are digital and offset printing. The number of pieces and printing speed of the methods are different. For this reason, the most suitable printing technique should be selected according to the job.

Turkish printing history could only begin 300 years after Johannes Gutenberg's invention. Among the reasons for the delay can be counted the perspective of the period and the Ottoman not being ready economically. Although there were beginnings in the field of printing in the Ottoman Empire before 1727 (such as the printing houses established by 1567 Armenians and 1627 Greeks), the first Turkish printing house was founded by İbrahim Müteferrika in 1727 and started operating in 1729.

DIGITAL PRINTING

high speed – freedom of design

In digital printing, designs are made on a computer and printed untouched. Digital printing is a profitable printing system for low-printing jobs. Digital files such as PDFs or desktop publication files are transferred directly to the digital printing machine for printing.

HOW IT IS WORKS?
It prints with machines that can process the image of a file in a computer environment without a printing mold.

It saves time, labor force and unit cost in low circulation jobs.

It is very easy to create, update or change data in digital environment.

Both the designer and the customer can design the print product as they wish because no molds are used in digital printing.

It is also possible to manipulate / edit the data as desired.

These data are also easily stored in electronic media and can be reused, no matter how long it takes.

OFFSET PRINTING

low cost – numerous printing

It is a flat printing technique. Hand-made or fabricated molds are used. Many products are printed at the same time.

HOW IS IT WORKS?

The desired printing is first transferred to the plates and then from the plates to a rubber blanket. Then the inked blankets transfer the image to the paper.

It is more costly for smaller quantities and printing takes more time than digital printing.

Large quantities can be printed at low cost. The more you print, the cheaper the price per piece.

DIGITAL AND OFFSET PRINTING

Digital printing does not need mold of printing and is transferred directly to printing whereas mold of printing is required in offset printing.

Digital printing is less costly for a few prints, while offset printing is less costly for numerous of prints.

Digital printing faster than offset printing.

Digital printing is more flexible for design changes.

Which print type you choose depends how much you want to print and time for the product you want to print. For example, you want to print labels and you have limited time for this. In this case, using digital printing instead will give you a serious advantage in terms of time of offset printing. However, you should not forget that as the number of prints increases in digital printing, the costs will also increase compared to offset printing.
